My role

Mobile app development, delivered through NM Tech Studio.

The problem

A B2B distributor took its corporate clients' orders through manual channels. It needed them to be able to buy from their phone, with a current catalog and no phone calls in between.

What I built

  • iOS and Android app from a single codebase.
  • B2B catalog with wholesale pricing.
  • Shopping cart and order creation.
  • Wholesale client authentication.
  • Real-time order tracking from the phone.

Technical decisions

  • One React Native codebase for both stores instead of two native apps: for a B2B catalog, the cost of maintaining two codebases is not justified.
  • Authentication required from the start: in B2B the price depends on who is looking, so there is no public catalog.
  • Order tracking inside the app, since that is what generates most support calls.

Challenges

  • Keeping the catalog in sync with the distributor's real inventory.
  • Designing for a professional buyer who repeats orders and needs speed, not exploratory browsing.

Result

The app is published for iOS and Android, and corporate clients place their orders from their phones. Delivered in 3 months.
